Privacy Notice

Last updated: 2026-07-21

This site is a personal academic website operated by Frederik Banis. This notice describes what data this site collects, how it is used, and your rights.

What this site collects

Very little. This site uses GoatCounter — an open-source, privacy-respecting analytics service — to count page views and referrers. GoatCounter does not:

  • Use cookies or persistent identifiers.
  • Track individual users across sessions or sites.
  • Collect personal information (name, email, IP address beyond what your browser inherently transmits).

GoatCounter records: which pages are visited, what browser and screen size is used, the referring site (if any), and the country-level location derived from the IP address. This data is aggregated and used only to understand which research content is reaching readers.

This site does not:

  • Use any other analytics services (no Google Analytics, Umami, Matomo, or other tracking software).
  • Set cookies for tracking, advertising, or personalization.
  • Collect personal information through forms or scripts.
  • Embed third-party content (no YouTube, Twitter, or other embedded widgets that would make requests to external servers).

What this site loads

This site is built with the Hextra Hugo theme (MIT license). The only external resources loaded are:

  • KaTeX or MathJax — for rendering mathematical notation on pages that contain equations. These are loaded from the site’s own assets, not from external CDNs.
  • Mermaid — for rendering diagrams on pages that contain them. Also loaded from the site’s own assets.

No fonts, icons, or scripts are loaded from third-party CDNs.

Hosting

This site is hosted on a private server. Standard network-level logging (connection timestamps, request paths) may occur as part of normal server operation. These logs are not analyzed for visitor behavior and are retained only for operational security and troubleshooting.

Third-party links

This site links to external services including ORCID, LinkedIn, Google Scholar, GitHub, Zenodo, and publisher DOI pages. When you follow these links, those services may collect data according to their own privacy policies. This site has no control over and no responsibility for the privacy practices of those services.
